There were roughly 25-30 people there that first night. There was a lot of enthusiasm about getting this group started and off the ground. Getting a group such as this started is not an easy task. And it takes every member of this group to make the group work.
The main focus of the group is to bring the Marshall University name into the area in a more prominent way. The purpose of the group is not to say bad things about any other college/university in the area or state. The purpose is to make the Marshall University name known better to those in the area with our events and group outtings. And to eventually offer a scholarship to a local student(s) in the coming year.
There is no charge to be in the group. Does this mean that being in the group will cost you nothing. Not exactly - it will cost you your time and in some cases (depending on the event) maybe a few dollars. The main thing that is asked of everyone is to participate in events, have fun, and spread the word of Marshall University.
Your help is needed to make this group shine in our community. We've had great things happen already. We've had the pre-screening of "We Are Marshall" and we were able to donate to the Salvation Army's Angel Tree.
Now is the tiem to move forward. We need a volunteer to assist in coming up with events that the group can do to help the community but to also get together and have fun. There's already Game Watching at The Anvil in Harpers Ferry - but there is so much more we could do as a group.
