Henry Louis and Carrie Tanner and some of their children
Picture taken sometime before 1914 at their house under the Grape Arbor
The enclosed picture is a copy of one found in my Aunt Naomis old scrapbook.
Per Paul Tanners notes (who also had a copy of this picture), he describes it as the below:
I do have a picture of the house taken about 1910
with he, Carrie, Ethel, Kittie, Lloyd, Fitzhugh lined up in their Sunday best by the grape arbor.
It was a square frame house with a half upstairs, presumably a window at each end.
It was an 102 acre farm located on Hopeful Lane, Florence, Ky.
Directions and description per the October 1, 1932 auction (sold due to Henrys failing health)
per Paul Tanners notes were:
Drive to Florence, turn right about a mile on Burlington road, turn left to Hopeful Church, turn right mile to farm. (The house was located down by the creek because the old Limaburg-Gunpowder road followed the creek.) 7 room house in good condition, barn, smoke house, washroom, hen house, garages, large fruit cellar, plenty of fruit trees, water in house, plenty of shade trees. This farm has had wonderful care, practically all in grass, all can be plowed with tractor; this is one of the best producing farms in the county and without a doubt the best watered. mile frontage on road.
It brought $45 an acre at the sale.
Carrie and Henry Louis Tanner were married 22 Feb 1877
Carrie Naomi Vaughn born 25 Nov 1858 died 17 May 1914 at 56 yrs old
Per Paul Tanner's Notes :
The third child of John G. and Talitha Vaughn.
The family soon thereafter moved to Campbell County.
In 1872, her father brought his family back to Boone County from Campbell County?
Carrie was a hard-working farm wife. In pictures, she did come to Henry's shoulder.
She bore him eleven children --two died in infancy and one (Carlos) died young.
Carrie was attending a Hopeful Church service and became ill. She was carried by friends across the street
to the home of Ernest Horton where she died in a very few minutes about 8 p.m.
Henry Louis Tanner born 3 Jul 1857 born in the Gunpowder Area, Boone County, Ky. died 29 Oct 1931 at 74 yrs old.
Per Paul Tanners notes: In my early years, I was a little awed by him.
He was one of the tallest people I knew (about 63) with a black beard.
Until near the end of his days, he was an imposing figure.
