| Taking Back Sunday - Tell All Your Friends | ||||||
| Wow. This is a cd of large rock quantity. Listening to it makes me happy and lonely at the same time. It's that happy go lucky emo feeling, you know the one, and it's great. You get that wierd clench in the pit of your stomach, alot closer to your genitalia then you want it to be, and it doesn't go away until you think of or hear something happy. I love it, and live by it now. This band was one of the first "emocore" bands that I ever heard, and at first I didn't like it very much. But the more I listened to it, the more I loved it. These guys are awesome, no, better than awesome (kinda like better than ezra, only not ezra, awesome). This disc has quite possibly some of the greates lyrics I have ever heard, and I've taken alot of influence from it. The songs are mainly about girls, but not really in a happy way, more about hating girls, and sometimes even getting killed by girls (see "You're So Last Summer"). Take for instance, "Bike Scene" - "You've got this silly way, of keeping me on the edge of my seat, and you're only counting the clock against the wind, and I'm miserable" Okay maybe that wasn't a good quote, but it's cool anyways. One more note about the lyrics, the lyricist really has a way with words, it's faaaaanntastic (like the Cash For Life commercial). The guitars aren't exactly complex or anything, but the type of music doesn't necessarily call for compex riffage. They bassically use four chord progressions for the most part of songs, and then the bridges have some more complex stuff, but nothing too insane. They have two guitarists, but they don't necessarily utilize them very well, not always anyway. Most of the time, both guitars are playing the same thing, but not on the slow down parts. Drums are alot more intersting then the guitars on this cd, the drummer is quite up to par I must say. The bassist seems to do more interesting things as well, putting in some cool fills etc. All in all, this disc is clean, good, and as fun as a barrell of monkeys. These guys remind me alot of The Movielife (maybe that's cause that's the guitarist old band) but not in the bad way, in a good way, cause I like the Movilelife. This disc is a good disc to chill with friends to, or to rock out, or even to cry to after you were dumped, I know I did. I give it a 4/5 because it deserves just that. |
