| Finch - What It Is To Burn | |||||
| I bought this cd with great anticipation. After having downloaded half the songs off it, I knew it was going to be amazing, and I was right. This cd (although not exactly emo) was what started my emo craze. The lyrics about girls (most of the time), made me realize that emo is a good thing, not a bad thing. Take for instance "Letters To You" - "I want you to know that, I miss you, I miss you so." This was the first song I ever heard by them, and it made me want to hear more guys whining about their girlfriends, but that's besides the point. This cd is amazing, enough said. Lyrically, amazing, I love it. Take "Stay With Me" for example, "Once again your eyes, make it hard to say goodbye, so I'll just keep driving. Where do you want to go, it doesn't really matter, just as long as you are here with me." That's so sweet, it makes one want to cry. Riffs, some are quite simple, but others are a little more complex. Sound, alot of heavy stuff, but still with some not so heavyness A good heavy song would be - "Grey Matter". Now one problem that I have with that song is, the beggining part is done by Daryl Palumbo of Glassjaw, although it is cool to have someone else have a part on your album, on Finch's debut album, Daryl sings two songs. Now to me that's a little much, but I can't really complain about it, it's still good. They also have a soft side too, without screaming. Two songs on here are not in the screamy category, "Ender (A Song For You)" and "Stay With Me". Also very quality songs. Now I know this whole time I've been saying nothing but good stuff about them, but there is one song on this cd that i do not like, and it's called "Project Mayhem". This is the other song featuring Daryl, and all it is, is the same thing dubbed over and over again, just with different samples. And it's all screamy. Now don't get me wrong, I love screaming, but this song is the same lines over and over again. Good lyrics though. The reason I don't like this song is because, I love the scream/sing harmonies on this cd, and this song is just that, minus the singing. For some reason this song doesn't do it for me. I give this cd a 4/5, only losing one for "Project Mayhem", other than that... BUY THIS ALBUM. I am not trying to corrupt you. Enjoy kids, I think you will. |
