| Note of noting note noterson: I apologize for all the bad grammar and crappy phrasing in this review, I was that stoked about this that I couldn't even type as bad as I normally do, did that make sense? | ||||||||
| Ah ah ah ah ah ah ah *continual random sreaming noises*!!!!! is what was going on in my mind when I got this cd, only today, and those are good screams. The cd kept getting better and better!! Picture this: Five pretty slick looking guys, getting together to make some really effin amazing emocore/hardcore (leaning more towards hardcore) with three different syles of vocals!! First you got the main guy, George, doing some amazing screaming, this guys scream is just flat out crazy good, now on top of that add another guy in the background doing some nice emoy type vocals, and then add yet another guy, doing some Sparta-esque yelling, the not so screamy not so singy voice (kinda like Hatebreed, only not bad). Now do you get any better than that?!? (note: there isn't always the third guy, only once and awhile.) And on top of that, add some really nice heavy riffage, mixed in with some nice seemingly mellow basslines, and cool off beaty sort of drums, not always off beat. Now throw in some cool sounding mellow sections, beat for about 8 minutes on high, and you get one of the greatest hardcore cd's I have ever heard. And that is Alexisonfire. Lyricwise, well let's just say that I haven't had enough time to listen to it hard enough to distinguish the lyrics yet, but I took a quick peek in the book, and what I read were some very nice lyrics. "Sifting through wethered photo albums looking for gloriously aged polaroids of places you have never been. A place to accept that you don't really exist. "Smile for the camera sweetheart, I really want to immortalize this moment." - 44. Caliber Love Letter. Wow. Now tell me that doesn't have heart, and I will chase you with a pointy stick, that seems fair right? Riffage is pretty good in my books, they use both guitars very effectively, they are rarely ever doing the same thing, and sometimes they are doing completely opposite things. Some parts consist of heavy stuff with mellow guitars over top. Crazy?!?! I think not, cause it works! and another great part, HARMONIZING GUITARS!!! I think the world needs more of that, and Alexisonfire can deliver it. Now I am going to be honest with you, the first song starts off a bit boring. Now don't get me wrong, it sounded really cool no matter what, but it doesn't get interesting untill about 2 minutes in to the song, but the song after the intro is so good that it makes up for it. I forgive them for the prolonged intro enough to give this cd a 4.5/5 (I haven't been able to listen to it long enough to give it a full 5, considering I just got home with it) Go and buy this album, it isn't very expensive, just get it and support these guys that are straight outta Kompton, or rather, St. Catherines, Ontario. |
