Game #1 vs Claire, November 1, 2003

The EKMHA Midget 'A' Winterhawks played the Midget 'A' Team from Claire last weekend at Acadia. This was the first game of the season for both teams but some of the action looked like mid-season plays.

The Winterhawks opened the scoring with under a minute to play in the first when Brandon Benjamin slid a pass back to the point and Ryan Murphy released a low shot towards the net which Andy Clement redirected past a surprised Joel Comeau from Claire.

In the second period both teams exchanged goals as Luke Dugas tied it up with assists to Jacques Lombard and Marc Saulnier. Ryan Murphy then set up Evan Wittenberg to put East Kings up 2-1. Ryan then went on an end-to-end rush and put the puck top shelf but unfortunately it came out so quickly the referee didn't see it.

The third period was a closely played affair but the only goal scored was a patient goal by Morgan Steele who waited for the goalie to go down then roofed a clean shot top shelf to put the Winterhawks up 3-1. Assists were awarded to Adam Brewster and Travis Sanford. Ian Brown played well between the pipes making a few saves late in the game to earn the victory.

The East Kings Winterhawks play all of their home games this season at the Acadia arena at 3:50pm on Saturdays. Admission is free and the action is fast. They play a pair of games this weekend starting with a home game against Yarmouth 'A' on Sat 08 Nov and then travel to Windsor on Sun 9th Nov for a 4: 50pm game against West Hants 'A'.
