Midget 'A' Winterhawks Destroy Opponents 16-1
The Winterhawks played host to the Midget 'A' team from Bridgewater last Saturday at Acadia. Despite looking a bit sluggish in the warm-up the players from East Kings jumped onto the scoreboard early when Brandon Conrad slid the puck along the ice and thru the 5-hole. The very next shift Ryan Murphy tipped one past the startled net-minder and then went down ice on a breakaway late in the period and slid a back-hand into the corner as East Kings were up 3-0 after one. Ryan Murphy tipped in his third of the game in the second period and Morgan Steele rounded out the scoring in the third as the Winterhawks won 5-0. Evan Warner earned his 3rd shut-out of the season stopping all 25 shots. Pointgetters were Ryan Murphy with 4(3-1), Ethan Bent 3(0-3), Morgan Steele 2(1-1) and Brandon Conrad 2(1-1). Adding single assists were Evan Wittenberg, Jeff Lawrence and Adam Brewster.
East Kings travelled to Greenwood the next day for a 7pm start time. The Winterhawks came flying out of the gate as Mike Sponagle scored on his opening shift and Chris Moore and Adam Brewster added a goal apiece to put East Kings up 3-0 after one. Both teams traded goals in the second as Morgan Steele scored for East Kings and Devon Bezanson replied for Greenwood assisted by Tristan Tobin. During the intermission the coaching staff reiterated to their players the importance of discipline and teamwork and the talk paid off. The Winterhawks scored on each of their first 4 shifts and scored 7 unanswered goals to decimate the Bombers 11-1 and earn their most lop sided victory of the season. Ian Brown earned the win between the pipes.
Leading the way for East Kings was Ryan Murphy with 5(0-5) while Adam Brewster and Morgan Steele each chipped in with 4(2-2). Also scoring was Chris Moore with 3(2-1), Mike Sponagle 3(1-2), Brandon Benjamin 3(1-2), Evan Wittenberg 2(2-0) and Corey Chapman 1(1-0). Adding assists were Bret Garby with 3 while Travis Sanford and Brandon Benjamin each had 1 apiece.
Next up, the Winterhawks travel to Bridgewater for a return match on Saturday at 6:15pm before playing host to Liverpool on Sunday at 2:15 at the Canning arena. The last time these two teams met East Kings narrowly defeated Liverpool 2-1. See you there.
