Winterhawks Down Bombers
East Kings played host to the Greenwood Bombers last Saturday in a very entertaining game which featured end to end play and a few breakaways where both goalies came up big.
Starting in nets for East Kings was Brandon Conrad. This was only Brandon's second game of the season in nets since he opted to play forward this year. The Winterhawks carried the play from the opening face-off when Ryan Murphy went in on a breakaway and hit the goal post and Morgan Steele hit the crossbar. The coaching staff agreed that this was going to be one of those games where we control the play, get lots of shots but couldn't bury the puck.
Despite working the puck down low and owning Greenwood's corners the Winterhawks couldn't convert any of their chances and Conrad kept the puck out of the net stopping a couple of breakaways and the teams headed into the dressing rooms after two periods of play tied 0-0.
The addition of Adam Brewster midway thru the second gave the Winterhawks 3 lines and that proved to be the turning point in the game. The line of Adam, Ryan Murphy and Morgan Steele then went to work and scored a couple of goals in the first five minutes of the 3rd as East Kings defeated the Bombers 2-0. Pointgetters for the Winterhawks were Morgan Steele with 2(1-1), Adam Brewster 2(1-1) and Ryan Murphy 2(0-2).
The Winterhawks then travelled to Sackville for a rare Monday night game. Playing with only 10 skaters, East Kings held their own for two periods and again headed into the third tied at 0-0. Unfortunately for the Winterhawks they carried the play but they couldn't bury the many great scoring chances that they had early in the game and this came back to haunt them as the Sackville Flyers scored 4 straight goals before Chris Moore converted a pass from Bret Garby and Ryan Murphy to round out the score as East Kings lost 4-1.
East Kings play host to Bridgetown at Acadia on Sat at 3:50pm before travelling to Berwick on Sun for a 10:30am game.
