EKMHA Executive Meeting held August 12, 2002 - 7:30 pm at Port Williams School.

Meeting was called to order at 7:35 by President Brian Rhodenizer. Those in attendance were Peter Hayes, George Curry, Robin Foley, Phil Outerleys, Sharon Rand, Darren Booth, Dave Duncan, Chris Wood, Susan S-Draper, Cathy Curry, Carrie Hemmings.

Minutes from the last meeting were read. Errors and omissions were noted, corrected and were then approved.

Budget - Registration will remain the same but the fund raisers will not be used this year. Club 450 tickets will remain. 1st year initiation players will be offered a discount, being chared a rate of $150. This is implemented in the hope that we can increase numbers in the novice program.

Registration dates will be September 6th 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm and Saturday 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

Hockey School will be held this year but it is still in question as to who will head the program.

It is important that we get the policy manual written as soon as possible. With the crash of Brian's hard drive the existing rough draft is gone and volunteers are needed to get it written again so that it can be in place by October.

Midget AA - we will only have about 20 players in this age group and the high schools will be taking a large number of new players this year. Kentville has not decided what level they will be placing their team at. This will create problems for our program. Therefore we expect our program will not be able to run. Dialogue with Will Brown will be held before the final decision is made.

Boundaries - In order for the Steven's boys to play in Kentville hockey system the boundaries between us must be changed. A meeting with at least 10 in attendance must be held to make this change. There are ways to word this boundary change, such as time limit or using just their address, etc. The membership is asked to vote as they feel.

Pee Wee Coaches

• A letter was received by email from Reg Rand.
• Brian had asked John to go ahead and select a coach and notify all applicants pending ratification by the executive
• Dave Duncan questioned the lack of interviews in the selection process. Brian stated that the committee chose not to do interviews. Without policy and procedures in place and past history in coach selection the committee had no precedents to follow.
• John Curry, Tim Ciappara, Mike Cochrane and Paul Murphy held a meeting, discussed each applicant and made their discision. All the members of the committee felt they knew the applicants and didn't feel that interviews were a necessary step.
• It was a concern that the ad in the paper did not ask for financial information. The applicants were told that it would be beneficial to add it to there applications.
• Robin Foley questioned whether references were called. The committee felt that they knew the applicants well enough and that was not necessary.
• Rumors have been heard concerning one applicant. These rumors have yet to be substantiated.
• Christ Wood made a motion that we vote on the selection put forward by the coaches committee, which was Jack Schofield. Darren Booth seconded.
• Votes 3 - yes ; 6 - no Motion defeated.
• George Curry motioned that the same coaches committee interview all applicants and then make the selection
• Robin Curry seconded, Motion carried.
• Dave Duncan motioned that the interviews be held by August 22, 2002. Robin Foley seconded. Motion carried.

George Curry motioned to adjourn the meeting at 9:00 pm. Phil Outerleys seconded.
