| Beach, Peninsula season champs fall in boys semifinal matches Cox, Kecoughtan boys suffer 1-0 defeats while Hickory, GB girls earn S'eastern Final bids Beach Semifinal Box Scores: Girls: Cox 1, Ocean Lakes 0 Boys: Landstown 1, Cox 0 May 21, 2008 Soccer resumed Wednesday in the three district tournaments that had their semifinal matches postponed a night ago. In the Beach District, Zaher Shihata's 79th minute goal gave his Landstown Eagles some more late-match theatrics, this time a 1-0 win over the top-seeded Cox Falcons in the boys semifinal match at Ocean Lakes. The Falcons fell despite a 20-6 shot advantage. Allen Turner collected four saves for the Eagles clean sheet. In the girls semifinal, Cox held serve 1-0 against Ocean Lakes with a late-first half goal by Kelly Morrison. The Southeastern District Tournament kicked off at Grassfield High School Wednesday with the girls semifinals. Hickory sat Western Branch down by a 3-0 result while Great Bridge held off Indian River 2-0 to earn an Eastern Region bid. On the Peninsula, the Bethel Bruins knocked off the top-seeded Kecoughtan Warriors 1-0 at Gloucester High School. The Bruins, seeded 5th in the Peninsula District, next faces the Warwick Raiders, a 1-0 winner over the Menchville Monarchs.
