Hickory makes Cozens goal stick for win
Midfielder's 28th minute goal pushes Hawks into another meeting with Cox

Doug Ripley - May 27, 2008

NORFOLK, Va. - Midfielder Meghan Cozens scored an unassisted goal in the 28th minute to provide the match winner in her Hickory Hawks' 1-0 victory over the Denbigh Patriots in Tuesday night's closing Eastern Region Quarterfinal at Powhatan Field.

In order to get to the final, the Hawks (12-5-1) will have to again meet the Cox Falcons who have knocked them out of three previous regionals.  Cox and Hickory meet Wednesday night beginning at 7:30pm.

Cozens goal came in transition as she found the ball, drove it through an array of Denbigh defenders before creating space and hitting the back of the net for the match's lone score.

Denbigh, who were making their first ever appearance in the Eastern Region Soccer Championships, hung tough for much of the night despite being out-shot by the Hawks, 19-6.

Caitlyn Geisman recorded ten saves for the Patriots (12-5-1) while Hickory net-minder Sarah George picked up the only individual shutout of the day, stopping the one shot of goal forced by their opponents.
