Dill's hat trick pushes Wildcats to 4-0 win
Great Bridge gets regional rematch with First Colonial

Doug Ripley - May 27, 2008

NORFOLK, Va. - Forward Kelsey Dill put together a first half hat trick and Amanda Holmes joined her with a goal and two assists as the Great Bridge Wildcats knocked out the Gloucester Dukes in a hurry, 4-0 in the opening Eastern Region quarterfinal at Powhatan Field.

The Wildcats, who held a 18-6 shot advantage, jumped on top in the fourth minute as Dill collected a through ball in the middle-third, stormed to goal between two defenders, and slid the ball into the left corner of the net.

After a long delay due to an on-field injury in the 18th minute, Dill would connect in the 28th on a counter as Holmes, before taking the ball down the right flank, chipped the ball over a trio of defenders to dill who half-volleyed a left foot in from the 18 yard box.

Holmes would again provide the initial set up on Dill's third goal, lobbing a ball to the right corner flag where Tara Kerns crossed in to Dill in the center of the box as she drove it in the middle of the net.

Great Bridge would cap off a strong first half with Holmes receiving a ball off the foot of a Gloucester defender and shooting into the right side of the net, through the out-stretched fingertips of Dukes goalkeeper Emily Coleman who collected five saves, all in the second half.

Wildcats starting keeper Vanessa Hudgins collected three saves and reserve Ashley Linn came on late to preserve the team shutout.

Great Bridge next earns a rematch with First Colonial, a 3-2 comeback winner over Maury in the second match of the day.  The Wildcats and Patriots meet Wednesday at 5:30pm.
