What is Candlepin Bowling?

Candlepin bowling is a type of bowling that is basically only found in the New England states and New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. It differs from Tenpin bowling because the balls are 4 inches in diameter and only weigh between 2lbs 5oz and 2lbs 7oz, the pins are long and tapered at the ends measuring 15 inches tall, you throw 3 balls per frame and the deadwood is always in play. The pins are 12 inches apart, center to center, and therefore the ball can easily punch throw without spliting the pins. Candlepin bowling is a very unique style of bowling and is definitly harder than tenpin or any other type of bowling. To prove this point, there are tons of 300 games in tenpin.........but not one in candlepin! The "goal" for women is to bowl 350 for three strings and for men it is 400. For the most part the rules are the same as in tenpin......with the exception of deadwood staying in play and throwing 3 balls instead of 2.
