EAST COURT FOOTBALL CLUB – A BRIEF HISTORY East Court FC’s first season in competitive football has been extremely successful and surpassed all expectations. With an average age of only 21, the East Court squad is almost certainly the youngest in the Mid Sussex Football League. Most of the players studied together at Sackville School in East Grinstead and have therefore known each other for many years. This is one of the principle reasons for the club’s outstanding team spirit and morale. The club also made some excellent signings at the beginning of the season. One of these is defender Dave Nolan, who sadly sustained a broken ankle in a match against Village of Ditchling III in March. East Court’s season started extremely well, with comprehensive victories in their first 4 league games and excellent performances in the Malins Cup and Junior Charity Cup. However, some surprising team selections at the time soon led to a managerial change. Manager Jim Seeds was replaced by current Player-Manager Daniel Medcalf in November 2002 and the club has since gone from strength to strength. Indeed, between December 2002 and March 2003, East Court FC won 10 consecutive games, scoring 45 goals and conceding only 12 in the process. They have a great chance of winning the Divison Seven championship, and a league and cup ‘double’ would cap an extraordinary first season for the club. B. Denyer ECFC CHAIRMAN
