LINGFIELD 5 - 3 EAST COURT FC In their first proper 11-a-side friendly a brave ECFC side went down by five goals to three against Lingfield III (or should that be a combined first/reserve/thirds team). Despite dominating the early exchanges and creating chances ECFC found themselves 2 - 0 down after bad positioning by Bish led to two lobs over the ECFC keeper. It was then 3 - 0 after a Lingfield striker beat a number of challenges before rounding Bish and slotting into an empty net. The deficit was then reduced when Barry pounced after a Hank free kick had been initially saved by the Lingfield keeper. There were more substitutions at half-time but Lingfield picked up where they left off. Seeds replacing Bish in goal made an excellent stop but from the resulting corner Lingfield made the score 4-1. Straight away ECFC reduced the gap back to two goals when a move through the centre finished with substitute Buckler bundling the ball over the line. Another goal from each side - the thunderous effort from Barry which went in off the bar for ECFC - made the final score 5 - 3. It was a good workout for the club ahead of its opening league fixture away at Cuckfield Town III on Saturday. PS - the secretary apologises sincerely for his absence on Saturday night but he felt so ill he was in bed by 9pm.
