One of the great business and environment success stories of recent years is The Body Shop

The Body Shop is an international franchise chain founded by Anita Roddick in 1976. These stores are selling the company's own environmentally acceptable personal care products.


Among the Body Shops's attractions for Green Consumers are:
  • its formulation of products from natural ingredients, many of which are from Third World countries
  • its refusal to sell products whose ingredients have been tested on animals.
  • its use of minimal packaging.
  • its support for educational programs and projects around the world that focus on Third World and environmental issues.

Customers can also bring their empty bottles back into the store to have them refilled with their favorite Body Shop product, at a price that is less than buying a new bottle. This saves the consumers some money and saves the Earth from needless waste.

Each store has a book listing the ingredients in all Body Shop products. If a particular ingredient is a genuine "trade secret", it won't be listed in the book, but the Body Shop will release the information if requested by a doctor on behalf of a client who might be sensitive.
