Earth Day

Activities for Earth Day

Clean Up and Beautify
Organize a project to clean up or beautify some area in your town. It could be at your school, or some other spot. Make sure to have a plan for how to take care of the spot after you've made it nice.

Recycled Art
What you need:
  • Glue
  • Tape
  • Low temp hot glue guns (for bigger kids)
  • Crayons, paints, markers.

What you can use:
  • A collection of clean 'garbage'
  • Boxes
  • Plastic containers
  • Egg cartons
  • Old envelopes
  • Scrap paper
  • Shredded paper
  • Fabric scraps
  • Empty spools
  • Ppacking peanuts
  • Bits of yarn
  • Scraps of wood
  • Wallpaper scraps
  • .....and anything else your group can come up with that could end up in the trash.

What to do: Collect the 'junk' over a period of time. Children can also ask their parents to see what different kinds of garbage is produced at some of their workplaces. Let your imaginations run wild, and see what kind of things you can build with the 'junk'....

Giving Something Up For One Day
  • Don't use electricity
  • Walk, bike, or take the bus instead of using your car
  • Don't eat at a place that uses lots of non-reusable items (such as fast food places)
