Slime is used to create a wall which you cannot pass until you remove it, which is done by dropping an item onto the slime remover. This just causes all the slime on the level to turn into blank spaces, and often frees up a new area. Slime appears on most of the levels, and walking into it will cause you to lose time faster than usual.
