Media/ Technology
EarthSeeds Home
Technology has radically changed our ability to transport goods, people and information.  Over the past few years perhaps the largest change has been in communications. Computer technology and the internet has introduced websites, email, blogs, podcasting, RSS feeds, news aggregators, WI-FI, voice over internet, and on demand multimedia.

Traditional media sources such as broadcast TV, newspapers and radio are reinventing themselves. A recent Washington Post focus group found that many young people wouldn't want a traditional paper newspaper even if it was free. Many prefered getting news online from a variety of sources.

Media literacy will be highly important for future leaders and citizens, who will need to be adept at navigating and evaluating a rapidly growing number of information sources from around the world.

EarthSeeds is helping to provide young people with media literacy, technology, and communications experience through our Global Youth Voice project.  We think its a great way to help young people develop leadership, cultural understanding and citizenship skills for the future.

Global Youth Voice Award

How do you get most of your news...the internet, TV, radio, newspaper, friends, your parents? Do you think one type of media is more trustworthy than another?  Why? Does your government interfere with news coverage and internet sites or is there free information flow?  How do you think restrictions on information affect democracy and freedom in a country? If children of your age do something positive and remarkable, do you think  that it might be covered by the news media? How else can you make your opinions, stories and ideas known?

Put your media and technology skills to work by reporting on global issues that affect your community and what you can do about it.  We will provide special recognition of outstanding work in photography, multimedia, news reporting, podcasting, and other forms of media communications.

Help Develop Media & Technology Skills as a Volunteer or Sponsor

Are you interested in media issues? We need volunteers to join our worldwide team and assist with monthly e-newsletter content, reach out to new partners and potential funders, and promote global dialogue and learning.

You can also volunteer with schools and youth organizations close to home by bringing the Earth into a local classroom or helping a class with our Global Youth Voice program.
