Did You Know?

The world's human population is about 6,500,000,000 people. Every second there are approximately 4.1 people born and 1.8 people die, with an annual increase of more than 70, 000,000 people.

Resources and wealth vary widely by geographic region, with average per person incomes in some of the most prosperous developed countries in the high $30,000 range, and some of the poorest African countries at $1000 or less.

It is estimated there are more than 25 million international migrant workers in the world. China alone has about 130 million internal migrant workers. For some people, the move to another country to find work is permanent and they are considered immigrants.

There will be approximately 1.2 billion young people entering the global labor pool in the next 10 years, and 90% of that growth will be in poor and developing countries already struggling to employ their own existing population.

There are approximately 193 countries in the world, 19 major religions and 6000 languages. People are also divided into ethnic groups based on a variety of factors such as race, culture, economics, religion and politics.

Global Youth Voice

Is the population in your country increasing or decreasing? Are there enough resources to support the number of people in your area? Do people in your area often leave to find work, or does your area attract a lot of immigrants? What is the history of your family in terms of migration? How do people of different ethnic groups get along in your area? How does international trade or politics affect your area?

What can you do to increase understanding between various types of people either locally or globally? What issues locally and globally most impact your security and safety?

Tell us what you've learned or document your project as part of our Global Youth Voice. We'll share your information with the world and you could even be selected for our $1000 Global Youth Voice grant or a curriculum kit.

Support International Relations Education as a Volunteer or Sponsor

Are you interested in international relations or other planetary issues? We need volunteers to join our worldwide team and assist with monthly e-newsletter content, reach out to new partners and potential funders, and promote global dialogue and learning.

You can also volunteer with schools and youth organizations close to home by bringing the Earth into a local classroom or helping a class with our Global Youth Voice program.
