The Blank Check

A little flirt
Never hurt
A smile, a wink, a flash of leg
A little love and a few kind words
Softly said and sweetly heard
Make a starving spirit beg

Its no kind of world
For a twice-a-day girl
Who's ready morning, noon and night
For there's hardly a man
With a once-a-week plan
Who can push her button just right

No harm in a dream
Or so it would seem
So long as its just a game
Satin blindfold, studded choker
Fishnet stockings and strip poker
A salacious appetite do tame

Hop on Pop
With Mom on top
Bring the next-door neighbors
Wine corks and pop-tops
Lost tops and trouser drops
Make lovely party flavors

When the game is through
And the marker is due
There's nothing left in the bank
For counterfeit passion
Has no lasting satisfaction
And leaves a lover's heart blank

I Feel

So...remarkably Blue
Black and Blue
Like a bruise
Beaten and battered
Threadbare and tattered
But only outside

So...long overdue
A worn-out keepsake
Like a ticket
One-way to London
The train someone didn't make
Tear-stained and unused

So...previously two
Now one and three and none
Like a problem
A lesson in subtraction
Multiplication and division
Beyond solving

So...undeniably true
Heavy and laden
Like a ship
Coasting into harbor
Seeking haven of homefires
Journey-weary

So...absolutely blue
High-sky electric
Like a hope
Newborn and laid-bare
Thrust toward heaven
Demanding to soar.
