6/22/09 Shirley (Naney) Curling passed away Saturday, 20 June 2009. Her obituary (below) and a picture can be seen at the link: http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/oklahoman/obituary.aspx?n=shirley-curling&pid=128760411

Shirley Ann (Naney) Curling, 69, of Midwest City, left us all too soon, Saturday, June 20, 2009, to return to her Father in Heaven. She was born April 20, 1940 in OKC to George and Agnes Naney. Shirley was a proud class of '58 MWCHS Bomber. She retired from TAFB after 25 faithful years of service. She was the best "Aunt Shirley" in the world. Shirley was happily married to her late husband, Dallas, for nearly 25 years. They loved to drive cross-country following major league baseball, little girls' softball and several trips to Las Vegas, where they had married. Shirley was preceded in death by her sister, Peggy; and brother, Tom. She is survived by her brother, Jim Naney and his wife Mary; several nieces, nephews, step-children and step-grandchildren. She was loved by all. Funeral services will be 10:00 am, Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at Barnes Friederich Funeral Home Chapel, with interment following at Sunny Lane Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society .

6/4/09 The June 4th meeting at Mackie McNears was attended by classmates Bob and Bill Rook and Earl Cox. Bill had driven in from Holiday Hills Texas. Although there were only three in attendance, we had a good lunch, brought each other up-to-date on activities and enjoyed ourselves. Sure hope to have a bigger crowd July 2. If you are in town for that holiday week, why don't you drop in and visit with us?

04/04/09 An impromptu meeting of several of our classmates was held March 4, 2009 at the home of Billie Jo (Martin) Carron. BJ served refreshments. In attendance were: John Hanlon, Bill Rook, Chester Fennell, Barb (Keith) Johnson, Barbara (Ballew) Saylors, Pat (English) Padgham, Earl and Jan (Igo) Cox, Billie Jo (Martin) Carron, Phil Washburn, Carol (Walker) Chitwood, Shirley (Naney) Curling and others that might have shown up after 8:00 pm.It was decided that classmates could meet at the Golden Corral in Midwest City every first Thursday of each month at 6:00 pm for a general get-together. Maybe a cup of coffee and pie or a full meal. This way, at least the locals can keep up with the latest, renew friendships and just have a good time for a little while. See - and use - the message board for discussion. _____________________________________________________________________________

04/03/09 The following is from classmate Charlie Scott::::: The past four months haven't gone well for me. I was having trouble breathing, no git-up-and-go, tired legs, etc., so my doctor started ordering tests in December. Consequently, it was determined I had an 88% clogged artery and a stent was implanted Jan. 14. Ten days after that I came down with pneumonia. Feb. 11, I was on a treadmill at cardiac rehab when I simply collapsed (lightness of head, sweating profusely, and blood pressure dropping). I ended up in the hospital emergency room where they ordered an ekg, chest xray, CT scan, carotid artery ultrasound, and monitored my heart enzyemes every four hours. I was released the next day without finding out what caused my collapse. However, the CT scan showed a spot on my right lung. A PET scan was ordered but the day before the scan I began having extreme pain in my lower, left abdomen. I went ahead with the PET scan which revealed the spot on my lung as well as a spot in my abdomen. The radiologist initially thought both to be cancerous. So my primary care doctor ordered a barium CT scan of my abdomen which turned out to be an inflammation of a bowel. Whew!! He then ordered a needle biopsy of my lung which was conducted last Monday, March 23. Last Wednesday evening, we received a call from my doctor who informed us it was, in fact, cancer. Needless to say, Sandy and I were taken aback. We begin tomorrow with consultations with a battery of doctors, cardiovascular-thoracic surgeon, radiation oncologist, and an oncologist. So I, along with Sandy's help, will fight this thing until we have it whipped. Please keep me in you thoughts and prayers -- I'll need all the help I can get. Thanks and God Bless. Your classmate, Charles Scott__________________________________ p.s. Sandy and I met with our cardiovascular-thoracic surgeon yesterday and he informed us I have a stage 1 squamous cell in the upper part of the lower right lobe. He's confident he can remove the lobe without too much risk. Since we all have five lobes, two on the left and three on the right, I will lose one-fifth of my lung capacity. The surgeon will consult with the other two doctors and they will decide on a game plan. However, he plans surgery during the week of April 13. The is the best way to ensure all the cancer is removed. ___________________________________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________________________________

03/08/08 Classmates, The following gives some answers to the tragedy that has happened to Phil Washburn. It was sent in an email by his sister,Sally Washburn McGill:

Some of you may know/remember my brother Phillip Washburn. He graduated MCHS in 1958. He was recently assaulted in Oklahoma City.

On Tuesday Feb 10 Phillip left his house to find something to eat. Of course EVERYTHING was closed due to the tornadoes, storm and power outage. Somehow - not clear on details - Phillip cut off another car. The guy was extremely upset, honking, shaking his fist and yelling. He whipped around Phillip, slammed on his breaks. That repeated several times. The cars never hit luckily. So -- that led into both getting out of the car. A heated discussion ensued.

Phillip was stabbed 3 times. A good samaritan stopped and prevented the attacker from doing anything more. Phillip dragged himself to his car and drove himeself to St Anthony's hospital - about one mile away. He parked and collapsed near the door of the emergency room..

The injuries are severe. Sliced in the mid section puncturing the stomach and slicing a piece of the liver off. Up through the scrotum into the groin - luckily did not cut the testicles and sliced his hamstring in half.

The emergency room doc told him he was within seconds of dying. He told him there was a discussion by emer room staff as to whether to try to save him or let him go. The doc said - "I am going to try to save him."

The doc said the man who stabbed him knew what he was doing and was experienced at doing it - based on how deep he cut and the speed at which he did it and the smoothness of the cuts. It is an absolute miracle that he is alive..

He has shocked everyone on his rapid recovery. Of course he was in excellent health - an athlete in high school and has been fanatic exerciser ever since. The extent of the hamstring damage is unknown at this time. Being physically fit has helped tremendously.

Phillip did not see the knife and did not realize he had been cut until he was in the car driving away. That tells me he went into shock immediately. How he drove is a mystery to me.

Phillip is home now - went him on Fri Feb 27th His address is 600 NW 14th OKC 73103 His email: [email protected] PH: 405-521-1313

Since the report went on the news he has heard from many many people. It is great because he has been somewhat depressed.

His daughter Carolyn is there at the moment. She lives in Portland.

11/10/08 The following is a note from Charles Scott. He wanted to make the reunion but was unable to do so and sends us this note. "Hey, fellow classmates, relatives, and former co-worker -- Thought I'd do a little bragging and forward our championship photo from last month's World Senior Games in St. George, Utah. We won our 60-64 age division against teams from Hawaii, Canada, Oregon (yea!!!), Washington, et.al. It's extremely difficult to win a medal at the Senior Games since there's so many good teams there. This year's tournament attracted about 300 men's teams. This is a regular Olympic Games for seniors, ages 50+. There are track and field events, basketball, golf, bicycling, etc. You can go to www.seniorgames.net to learn about the games. If you click on results and softball, you'll see my "Coyotes" of Fallbrook, CA, listed for the Gold Medal in the 60+ blue division. In the photo, I'm standing, far right, wearing a Sooners ball cap because the next day was the OU vs. Texas game. However, it didn't do much good since we lost. Alan Riley and Earl Cox have furnished several photos from the 50th class reunion -- I recognized a few of you. I was glad to see John Hanlon has lost considerable weight -- I'm proud of you, Willie! And it was good to see Maurice Severson in attendance. And, of course, I send my regards to all the lovely ladies. My wife, Sandy, and I stay very busy -- me with my four or five softball games per week and Sandy with her quilt guild and church activities. Fallbrook is in the northern most part of San Diego County and is a nice little town to live in. Best wishes to all of you and please stay in good health. Earl, you may forward this to other classmates if you wish. Take care, Charlie p.s. It's good to see the Midwest City Bombers are No. 1 in the state. ...GO BOMBERS!!!" ------>>Charlie is top row, far right.

9/1/08 The Reunion was a great success due to classmate participation and the reunion committee members hard work. This site will remain open until it is closed. It can still be accessed by all classmates. So keep updating your info and look for more photos, videos and whatever.
