Ten Years ago I attempted to put together a list of what I considered to be the All Time Top 100 Songs of All Time. Ever. The chart reflected all that I had been listening to for the past 15 years! It was painful to assemble, and was compiled over a long period of slepless nights when I really ought to have been doing something more worthwhile. Like all Lists, it consists of old classics, that would still be in my Top 100 Today ( 'Holy Wars', 'One', 'Ride On'), with the current songs of the time ('Place Your Hands', 'The Beautiful People', 'More Human Than Human') that almost certainly would not make it into the list I would compile today, a decade on. They are all still great songs, and it is nice to have a brief moment in time captured like this. Anyway, enough of theis folly, are we ready to count down?

Released in 1987, The second single lifted from the Joshua tree featured U2 at their spirit lifting best. The increased focus on keyboards may have surprised a few people, but here it worked perfectly. Both Larry Mullan and Bono's performances were nothing short of amazing, while Adam's 4 simple Bass notes held the whole song together perfectly. Live, it's always proved a show stopper, and the band still use it to end their forst set even today. A classic never to be equaled.
Look, it was 1996 okay?... And this was the sound of the times! My first time witnessing a live U2, and this was the song that introduced us to the spectacular that was the Popmart shows. This is why I believe I placed it so high. These days though ( Nov 2003 ), I doubt it would make the top 100 at all.
A beautiful song. No questions. Dosen't matter what year it is, it will always be a masterpiece.
Mother, mother suckin rock and roll! I doubt this would make a 2003 top ten... Perhaps not a top 100 either. Show opener for the pop mart shows ( Can you see a theme here? ). This followed on from Pop Muzik and really started the party. Later released as a remixed single, it failed to match the original. Best performed live, the finest example being at the 1997 MTV Europe awards.
Well it had to be U2 for the top spot, didn't it? Domination the top 10 couldn't be completed without the band taking the honours for my favourite song of all time. Bad, originally taken form 1984's Unforgettable Fire, and later featured live on the Wide awake in america ep, was simply a masterpiece for it's time. /it was unlike anything the band had ever attempted before, and saw them push back the boundries of their until now more rock orientated sound. With Prducer Brian Eno bringing along a softer influence, the U2 sound only improved.
Bad was unique in both sound and arrangement. Larry Mullan's drums in particular, were unlike anything ever played before, and paved the way for a style that he later incorperate to a much greater extent on 1987's joshua Tree album. A classic song that inspires generations, and will always be remembered as a hungry young band at their best.
