One Hero, Nobodys hero; Eamon O'Neill 9th August 2006.

Nobody's Heroes was formed in 1991 by a group of friends in the South Derry Village of Moneymore, Northern Ireland. Influenced by their heroes AC/DC, Led Zeppelin and Metallica, they forged a Hard Rock sound of their own, and began to tour the local Irish gigging circuit. The band were known for their advanced musicianship and ability to play almost any track with ease. They soon became a popular act, with regular residencies in the long forgotten Steps venue's in both Magherafelt and Cookstown. The height of the band's success however, came with appearances on National Radio Station RTE 2FM, and Ulster Television. However the pressures of growing up (Their TV appearance came before any of them had reached the age of 18), and the desire to try different things eventually forced the lads to go their separate ways. They split in 1998, with Gavin and Gerry continuing in the Led Zeppelin tribute band, the Rubber Plants, and Eamon becoming a member of local band Blaze.

The band entered the studio on 3 occasions. Their recording career began in June 1992, with a recording of Chuck Berry's classic Johnny B. Goode, for Ulster Television's 'You're On' programme. Featuring the somewhat limited talents of original Drummer Marty Moran, the sessions were tense, with the rest of the band having to work around Moran's static beat. The following month, they recorded a video for the Track at Ballymena's Showgrounds, however by this stage, plans for Moran's exit were being finalised. With Gerry Wilkinson replacing Moran, the band entered a period of intense creativity. The 'Eyelash Soup' Demo (essentially a self-financed mini-LP), released in November 1995, was their first original material. Recorded under the guidance of Producer Clive Culbertson (Van Morrison band), the five track cassette was limited to around 500 copies. It sold out immediately, thanks to a dedicated local following, and radio airplay of the songs 'Hero' and 'Her'. In 1996, the band entered the studio again to record the follow-up. With the intention of securing a recording contract, the sessions were productive, resulting in 2 new songs; the surreal 'Alien Oak Tree', and the crushing 'Flanked'. However, with cracks in their relationship beginning to show, the EP was the band's final recording.
Today, in 2006, both Gavin and Gerry continue to appear on the same Irish stages from time to time in a number of low-key projects. Eamon, who has now relocated to London, is a member of Space Rocker's Pre Med, which also feature's Hawkwind Bassist Alan Davey. The band's album is slated for release in 2007. He also performs regular Solo Acoustic set's in the Capital. Kieron (also a member of the Rubber Plant's original line-up) has recently taken a break from the business, but continues to entertain those who know him.
