| Wednesday Morning, May 21, 1874 Base Ball Notes Frank McLaughlin, who played with the Johnstown club last year, and who has been playing shortstop in the Cincinnati Union team this season, was suspended last Saturday for drunkeness. He was gobbled up by the pol- lice the same evening. A meeting of the directors of the Altoona Browns B.B.C. will be held on Thrusday eve- ning at 8 o'clock at the residence of the mana- ager, 716 Eleventh Street. Chairman Piper re- quests all the directors to be present if possible, as business of the utmost importance must be transacted at this meeting. The National Unions, of Washington, D.C., arrived in the city on day express yesterday, and are quartered at the Globe Hotel. They came direct from St. Louis, where they were defeated in every game. According to the schedule the Altoona club should have met them on the Fourth street grounds yesterday afternoon, but Monday night's rain left the grounds in such bad condition that the game was postponed. The first game will be played this afternoon, play to begin at 3 o'clock. The batting order of the Nationals, as arranged by Captain Baker yesterday afternoon, is as fol- lows: Baker, 1st b.; Wise, p.; Evers, 2nd b.; Moore, ss.; Vass, 3rd b.; Tenney rf; Drew, lf; McKenna, c.; Ginnarty, c. f. Baker, who is captain of the visiting nine, is the same Philip who captained and caught for the Mountain City nine in 1876. He looks a little older, but was easily recognized by his old friends in this city, many of whom called at the Hotel to see him. Among his callers was Al. Bradley, of last year's Altoona team, and a member of the nine which Baker captained in 1876. Baker always had a high opinion of Bradley's fielding, and he will try to induce him to play with the Nationals to day, the team being short a couple of the regu- lar players. If Bradley consents the order may be changed. Brown and Moore will be the battery for the local team. The Altoonas and Nationals will play four games here, after which the latter will go to Cincinnati. Mr. Sullivan will umpire the games here.
