EGAN--In this city, 27th inst., at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. T.P. Crowley, 337 Thames Street, Bridget, widow of Patrick Egan, aged 87 years.

Catherine Whitty

Rites For Mrs. Michael Whitty

Funeral services for Mrs. Catherine Whitty, wife of the late Michael Whitty were conducted Tuesday morning from her home, 517 Thames Street, to St. Mary's Church. The Rev. John F. O'Rourke officiated at the largely attended mass of requiem. Relatives and friends sent many floral pieces. Burial was in St. Columba's Cemetery. John Egan

EGAN--In this city, 23rd inst., John Egan, aged 46.

Funeral from the residence of his mother-in-law, Mrs. Cornelius Reilly, 301 Thames Street, Friday the 25th, at 8:30 a.m. to St. Mary's Church at 9 o'clock, where a mass of requiem will be offered for the repose of his soul. The funeral of the late John Eagan took place this morning, services being held at St. Mary's Church by the pastor Rev. Father Meenan. The interment was at St. Columba's cemetery. The bearers were Bernard Foy, John Trainor, T.P. Crowley and A.B. Hurley of Newport Camp No. 7677, of the Modern Woodmen of America, of which the deceased was a member. Mrs. John Egan Dies; Ill Several Months

Was Member of Queen's Daughters, St. Mary's Rosary, Scapular Society

Mrs. Mary Riley Egan, wife of the late John Egan, died Sunday at her home, 58 Berkeley Avenue, after an illness of several months. A native of Ireland, and daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Cornelius Riley, she lived most of her life in this city. She belonged to the Queen's Daughters and St. Mary's Rosary and Scapular Society. Surviving are two daughters, Miss Mae C. Egan and Mrs. Helen E. Doyle of this city, a son, John I. Egan of Westfield, Mass., two granddaughters, and a brother, Thomas Riley of this city. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 9 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, with interment at St. Columba's Cemetery. (Obituary dated 8/1948.)

Mrs. John Egan Rites

The funeral of Mrs. Mary Riley Egan of Berkeley Avenue, wife of the late John Egan, was conducted this morning from the O'Neill Funeral Home to St. Mary's Church. The Rev. James R. Bartley, the pastor, said the mass of requiem. In the sanctuary were the Rev. Joseph P. Coleman of Providence, former pastor of St. Augustin's Church in this city, the Rev. John J. Feeney and the Rev. Raymond Dyer. Burial was in St. Columba's Cemetery where Father Bartley and Father Coleman read prayers. The bearers were Thomas Riley, David Riley, John Murphy, Emil E. Mae Egan

Miss Mae Egan Dies in Warren

Miss Mae C. Egan, formerly of 73 Annandale Road, a proofreader for the Daily News unit her retirement seven years ago, died Saturday at the Grace Barker Nursing Home in Warren. She attended St. Mary's Church and was a member of the Queen's Daughters of Newport. Miss Egan was born in Newport, a daughter of the late John and Mary Rielly Egan. She leaves a sister, Mrs. Helen Egan Doyle of Middletown; a brother, John J. Egan of Riverside; and two nieces, Mrs. Fredrick Siino of Barrington and Mrs. Vincent Panciera of Murray Hill, NJ. The funeral will be held at 9:15 a.m. tomorrow from the O'Neill Funeral Home to St. Mary's Church for a requiem mass at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Columba's Cemetery. (Obituary dated 6/21/1971.)


Catherine Egan

Miss Catherine Egan Dies At Her Home

Secretary of Newport Coal Company; Was Connected with Various Clubs

Miss Catherine Elizabeth Egan, secretary of the Newport Coal Company and connected with various club activities, died Wednesday at her home on Gillies Court following an extended illness. She was born in this city, a daughter of Mrs. Mary Riley Egan and the late John Egan and was graduated from Rogers High School. She has been connected with the coal company for years, being elected secretary. She belonged to the Queen's Daughters and the Blessed Virgin Sodality of St. Augustin's Church, and at one time was the vice president of the Business and Professional Women's Club. She was also a member of the Old State House restoration committee. Besides her mother, she leaves two sisters, Mrs. William A. Doyle and Miss Mae C. Egan, and a brother, John J. John J. Egan

Barrington--John J. Egan, 83, of Barrington, an export sales manager for the former Foster Machine Co., Westfield, Mass., from 1945 until retiring in 1965, died Sunday at the Evergreen House Health Center in Providence. He was the husband of Marion Palmer Egan. Mr. Egan previously had worked for the government for 20 years. He was born in Newport, a son of the late John and Mary Riley Egan, and lived in Barrington and Warren for 20 years. Besides his wife, Mr. Egan leaves a daughter, Mrs. Maureen Siino of Barrington; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. His funeral will be Wednesday at 9 a.m. from the Wilbur-Romano Funeral Home, 615 Main St., Warren, with a mass of Christian burial in Holy Angels Church, Maple Avenue, at 10. Burial will be in St. Columba's Cemetery, Middletown. (Obituary from the Newport Daily News 6/4/1984)


Margaret Eagan Foy Crowley

(There was a brief mention in either the Washington Post or Washington Evening Star, which listed deaths in the city. It listed Margaret Crowley, 75.  According to St. Elizabeth's Hospital, Margaret Crowley died December 4, 1921. She is buried at Fort Lincoln Cemetery in Brentwood, MD.)


John Foy

Foy,On Tuesday July 16, 1878, Mr. John Foy, aged 30 years. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral, at his residence, 241 East 29th St., on Thursday, July 18, at two o'clock. (Death notice from the New York Herald.)


Bernard Joseph Foy

Bernard J. Foy Dies; D.C. Resident 30 Years

Bernard Joseph Foy, 74, an Army captain in World War I and a Washington resident for nearly 30 years, died yesterday at Bethesda Naval Hospital after a long illness. Mr. Foy was born in New York City and was educated in Newport, R.I. He was wounded in World War I and was an invalid as a result of wounds suffered in combat. Coming to Washington to live in 1920, he was in the radio business here for several years but retired because of disability. Mr. Foy, who lived at 431 Oglethorpe St. N.W., was a member of the Military Order of the World Wars and the Disabled American Veterans. He also belonged to the National Photographic Society here. Surviving are his widow, Anne C. Foy; four daughters, Mrs. Charles B. Lowndes of Durham, N.C., Mrs. Margaret Golden of the Oglethorpe St. address, Mrs. Alvin Kramer, Arlington, and Mrs. Wallace Holden, Los Angeles; thee sons, Lt. Comdr. Harold B. Foy and Lt. Col. Larz B. Foy, both of Silver Spring, and Comdr. John F. Foy, Chevy Chase, and 13 grandchildren. Funeral arrangements have not been completed, but burial will be in Arlington Cemetery. Capt. B.J. Foy, War I Army Veteran, Died

Capt. Bernard Joseph Foy, 74, retired Army veteran of World War I, died yesterday at Bethesda Naval Hospital after a long illness. Captain Foy was an emergency officer in World War I and was an invalid as a result of wounds suffered in combat. He as a native of New York City, but spent his early years in Newport, R.I. He came to Washington after World War I. He was a member of the Military Order of the World Wars, American Legion, Disable American Veterans, and National Photographic Society. Captain Foy lived at 431 Oglethorpe St. N.W. He is survived by his wife Anne C. Foy, four daughters, Mrs. Charles B. Lowndes of Durham, N.C., Mrs. Margaret Golden of Washington, Mrs. Alvin Kramer of Arlington, and Mrs. Wallace Holden, Los Angeles; three sons, Lieut. Cmdr. Harold B. Foy and Lieut. Col. Larz B. Foy, Annie C.On Thursday, October 6, 1966, at Providence Hospital, Annie C. Foy, beloved wife of the late Bernard Joseph Foy, mother of Mrs. Marguerite F. Golden, Mrs. Charles B. Lowndes, Mrs. Horace W. Holden, Mrs. Alvin W. Kramer, and John F. and Harold B. and Larz B. Foy. There are also thirteen grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren. Friends may call at Joseph Gawler's and Sons, Wisconsin Ave. at Harrison St. N.W. from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Mass will be offered at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Wisconsin Ave., and Yuma St. N.W. on Monday, October 10, at 9:15 am. Interment: Arlington National Cemetery. Michael Eagan 

Michael Eagan, a former resident of Providence, RI, passed away at his home, 9 Cluny Avenue, yesterday at the age of 81 years.  For the past eight years he had made his home in this city.  Left to mourn his death are one son, Joseph*, of this city, with whom he resided, and a daughter, Mrs. Alice Hebert, of Buffalo.  The funeral will take place on Wednesday morning from the above address to St. Ann’s Church, thence to Holy Sepulcher (ibid) Cemetery. Mary Ellen Duffield Eagan

Service for Mrs. Mary Eagan, widow of Patrick Eagan, was held this morning from the residence 9 Cluny Avenue to St. Ann’s Church.  Rev. Charles McColgan officiated at the church and Rt. Rev. Mgr. Englert officiated at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery .  Members of the Catholic Women’s League attended the service and pallbearers were Michael Callaghan, William O’Brien, Charles Obermeyer, Steven Caghlin, William Black and Thomas Bain. Alice E. Eagan McPhail

Woman Succumbs to Her Injuries in Hospital Here
Mrs. L. McPhail is Car Crash Victim

As a result of injuries suffered in an automobile accident on the Caledonia Highway near Mount Hope, early in the morning of July 4, Mrs. Leonard McPhail, 9 Cluny Avenue died yesterday in St. Joseph’s Hospital. Her husband, injured in the same mishap, is still in serious condition at the hospital.

According to Provincial Constable K.W. McLay, Mr. McPhail’s car had stalled on the highway and one driven by Lloyd Kingsborough, 192 West 2nd Street had been drawn up in front of it, to tow it to a garage.

Mr. McPhail was linking the bumpers of the cars with a rope and his wife was sitting in the rear seat of the car when a third machine, driven by Malcolm Chisholm of Caledonia, crashed into the rear of it.

Mr. McPhail was badly crushed between his car and the Kingsborough car and his wife suffered back and head injuries. Their two sons, also in the car, suffered lesser injuries and were discharged from hospital last week.

Mrs. McPhail, the former Alice Eagan, was in her 44th year. Coming from Providence, Rhode Island, the deceased had been a resident of Hamilton for the past 30 years , and had attended St. Ann’s Church where she had been a member of the Catholic Women’s League of the church. Surviving are her husband, Leonard, two daughters, Mrs. Arthur Hughes, of Dundas and Miss Patricia, at home, three sons, John, James and Donald, one brother, John of Hamilton, two sisters, Mrs. Frank Buddin, of Toronto and Mrs. Carl Benson of Buffalo. Remains are resting at Dwyers Funeral Home for service at her residence, 9 Cluny Avenue on Thursday morning, to St. Ann’s Church for Mass at 9 a.m. Interment will be made in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
