Brief Overview of Our
 Eagan/Egan Family

This web site contains information regarding Eagans/Egans who emigrated from the Ballintaylor and Kilnafarna areas of County Waterford, Ireland, to the United States. Many of these family members landed in New York City and stayed there briefly before finally settling in Newport, Rhode Island, beginning in the 1860s and 1870s.

We have been able to trace this family back to Thomas Eagan, who married Catherine Adams. Their children include the following:

1. Margaret Eagan, who married a Henry Miller and lived in Biggs, CA in the 1890s.

2. Patrick Eagan, who married Bridget O'Brien on Feb. 6, 1844, in Ballintaylor, County Waterford, Ireland. Bridget and her children eventually settled in Newport, RI. It is not known if Patrick moved to the U.S.

3. Catherine Eagan, who was born ca. 1815, in Ballintaylor, County Waterford, Ireland and married Michael O'Flaherty on Feb. 16, 1844 in Ballintaylor. Catherine and her children eventually settled in Newport, RI. It is not known if Michael moved to the U.S.

4. John Eagan, who was born ca. 1817 in Ballintaylor, County Waterford, Ireland, married Esther Flynn on Feb. 23, 1865, in Newport, RI.

5. Maurice Eagan, was born ca. 1832 in Ballintaylor, County Waterford, and settled in New York City, where he died on Oct. 7, 1892.

Other possible children in this family include a Michael Eagan, who married Bridget Burke in Ballintaylor, and a Richard Eagan, who married Mary Ronayne in Ballintaylor. It is possible that the children of Richard and Michael Eagan moved to Newport, RI.
