Multiplayer
We'd like to give you an impression of the multiplayer in Battlefield 1942 here on this site and show you some of its Features.
The multiplayer, which will support up to 64 players on a map, will be the main part of Battlefield 1942 and will be one of the most interesting since a long time. Although there will "only" be 3 multiplayertypes, Battlefield Conquest:
This multiplayertype is a speciality of Battlefield 1942 and allows exciting and also action filled multiplayer matches. Conquest is based on a ticket-system. Each ticket represents one respawn. That means if a teammate dies and respawns, your team is loosing one ticket. This would be nothing really new, but there will be several capture points on the map, which your team should "own". The more capture points your team is owning, the faster the ticket-counter of your enemies will reach zero.
Normally the amount of tickets will be defined by the maximum number of players on the map. But also the serveradmin may define the amount of tickets in order to have short or long battles on his server. By using the tickets-system it will also be possible to recreate historical battles. E.g. the Russian team will get quite more tickets then the German team. So they can make up their disadvantage in technology by their bigger number of soldiers. 1942 promises to become a true innovation in the multiplayer genre. This types will be Capture The Flag (CTF), Team Deathmatch (TDM) and the new Conquest, which will be explained seperatly. To keep the orientation in the hot battles you will have three different views: Cockpit View, First-Person View and Third-Person View. Besides the developers are working on including a free camera-view which will be similar to the Spectator mode. But If you might die, you have following options: Either you change into the "Spawn Screen" where you can select your kit and your spawn point, or you simply press the spacebar in order to respawn with your last kit at your last spawn point.
The netcode of Battlefield 1942 supports TCP/IP and at the release there will sadly be only a windows dedicated server available. But Electronic Arts has announced that a short time after the initial release there will also be a linux dedicated server published by a patch.
All in all you can say that the multiplayer, which is based on kits, will be simply the best! Even if the maximum number of 64 players on a map will be hardly played in the internet, but more over LAN. At the end something very interesting for people with a slow or even without an internet connection: Battlefield 1942 will support bots in multiplayer, which means that empty slots can be used by AI bots, which save internet costs and allows you to have relaxed fights alone.
A short summary of the multiplayer: 16 Maps Up to 64 players 3 Types: CTF, TDM and Conquest Bots will be supported |
