In the summer of 2000 I decided to fulfill a boy's dream of owning a real metaldetector. I bought a secondhand Tesoro Amigo II for about 270 euro and tried my luck mainly on the grounds of an old French castle. The castlegrounds had a history going back to the Roman settlements and I found many traces of the fire that destroyed the stone fort during the French Revolution.
This was the first 'interesting' coin I found
In the beginning of WWII France was split in two. The North was now just another part of the Nazi Empire. The South became a 'puppet-state' called Vichy France, led by Marchal Petain. For me this coin is so interesting because it would have been one of the last in it's kind that were pressed. The date on this French Frank is 1943. But Vichy France was occupied by German forces in 1942 and ceased to exsist.
The second 'special' coin I found was even more thrilling.
This is also a French coin. It is a silver 'Double Sol' dating between 1740 and 1769. Altho the coin is heavily damaged and the depiction on either side barely visible, I am still very excited about this find.
Both coins were found on the same afternoon, only a few meters away from eachother.
