Topics: Algebra and Geometry examines problem solving with vectors, linear combinations of vectors, products of vectors, equations of lines and planes, translations and transformations of conics, complex numbers and proof by mathematical induction, with an emphasis on problem solving throughout.

Prerequisite: All students taking OAC Algebra and Geometry must have been successful in grade 12 math at the advanced level.

  1. Students should read and study the examples in each section of the textbook before attempting the problems associated with the given section. Preview the next section of the book before class. Take down all board noted. It is the responsibility of the student to cover all topics. When asking for extra help, show your teacher the attempt you have made to solve the problem. Bring your notes and homework to class every day.
  2. Homework will be assigned on a daily basis. Completion of homework is necessary to achieve success in this course. Completion of homework and staying caught up with the course is the responsibility of the student but may be monitored by the subject teacher.
  3. Calculators: a nonprogrammable, nongraphing calculator is a course requirement. Students will find calculators necessary for assignments, tests, and the exam. Students will not be permitted to share or borrow calculators at any time during the course. When necessary, graphing calculators will be provided by the Mathematics Department for in class use.
  4. Evaluation: Your final mark in this course will be evaluated as follows:

Term Work (60%) which will consist of tests, quizzes, assignments, and an Independent Study unit.

Final Examination (40%): Every student must write an examination at the end of the course at the scheduled time. The examination will cover all topics presented during the entire duration of the course. The final examination is 2.5 hours.

  1. MISSED TEST POLICY

Planned absences (E.g.,medical appointments, field trips, etc.)

Plan ahead—write all important dates in your agenda. Check with parents for upcoming appointments! The student is required to inform the teacher in writing at the earliest possible date and to arrange in advance for an alternate time to write the test or quiz or to submit the assignment–usually in advance of the announced date.

Unexpected absences (e.g., illness) The student will make arrangements to write the missed test/quiz at lunch the day he/she returns in room 217. Justify your absence in writing. A medical note is required for a missed test due to illness.

*See your teacher before opening exercises or at lunch to make your arrangements.

*Absence for a test, quiz, or deadline must be

1-legitimate 2-made up as above

  1. Avoid zeroes!! Be here every day. Make proper arrangements if you cannot avoid being away. There are no makeup tests. No tests will be dropped.
