| Finally, another stop-motion animation movie from Tim Burton. I loved The Nightmare Before Christmas, so I was eager to see Corpse Bride. The best thing going for this movie is that it's very original, rather than a remake or a sequel like so many new movies out there. On the eve of his wedding, Johnny Depp's character finds himself accidentally married to a corpse, leading us into the world of the dead, while those back in the land of the "breathers" fret and worry. We meet some interesting characters, and Danny Elfman's score is serenely Gothic. Overall though, the musical numbers don't quite have the instant appeal and lasting ability of The Nightmare Before Christmas. I mean, who can forget "Kidnap Mr. Sandy Claws"? Classic. Corpse Bride is an enjoyable film. If you're looking for a good Halloween-ish movie, check it out. | ||||
