Soda Bottle Rocket

You are going to design a rocket from your soda bottle.  The “nose” of  your rocket will be the bottom of the bottle and the base or  “thruster” will be the top where the cap is.  You will have to design a rocket that will be the most “Aerodynamic” as it will compete with a classmates at launch time.

Be careful with your design; it must be functional not just “cool” or “pretty”.  Sequins and Superman designs are neat to look at, but how is that going to help your rocket’s lift?  When completed, you will draw and describe your rocket explaining all modifications.  You will then make your prediction of your launch.

Launch Day

You and your competition will place both rockets on the launch pad.  After pumping to 80psi you will count down your launch.  This must be done quickly and efficiently.  Make sure you are wearing your goggles or your launch will not count.

Grade scale

75% on Data – Complete color drawing of rocket with full labels and description

Predict your launch in detail and explain why? (White unlined paper)

20% on bottle – creative  (Not sloppy)

                          Functional  (good reasons for design)

Well planned  (no wet glue/paint/notebook paper)

5% on winning launch

Double lab grade
