DESPAIR

by: e-pony

This restless sorrow will not be stilled.
I count the empty minutes of a life already spent
And look forward into darkness.

The bitterness of existence remains,
Reminder of what is past and what is forever gone.
I go forward seeking darkness.

The memory of you -- warm with life,
Protector and protected, partner and friend, my brother --
Shivers like a flame in darkness.

The brilliance of your spirit has grown dim,
And the echo of your laughter falters in the silence,
Leaving me alone in darkness.

Inspired by both "SR" and personal experience, this poem is the companion piece to "Waiting."

When hope has vanished and there are no more options, what is left for a faithful friend and vigil-keeper?
