* Scuba Diving With A Backstreet Boy *

I fiddled with the zipper on my wet suit nervously as I looked around at my surroundings. I started to get mad at the stupid little zipper that wouldn't operate right and Brian came up behind me and I could hear him chuckle to himself, It must have been a hilarious site. My wet suit was only half way zipped up with my red bikini showing inside, and big diving goggles were strapped to the top of my head like forgotten sunglasses as I struggled with the zipper on my suit; I had refused to where the flippers, or 'swim fins' as Nick had referred them as. Brian placed a hand on each of my arms and turned me around to face him, as I turned around I could see the huge smile on his face. My first time scuba diving and he wasn't even going with me, nor was my best friend. I wouldn't even have thought about it except Nick had told how fun it would be, and that he would be right there with me. He told how beautiful the coral looked and all the tropical fish. He said it basically glowed down there, although I think he exaggerated a bit.
"Call me flipper." I said jokingly as I held my arms out and blew a straw piece of hair out of my eyes. Brian looked me over and nodded his head.
"Okay Flipper. Havin' some trouble with that zipper…hey that rhymes!" He stated the obvious and helped with the zipper. 'How many people does it take to zip up a wet suit?' Once we got it zipped I walked over to Nick who was putting on his 'swim fins' which looked ridicules, by the way. I laughed at him as he struggled to walk in the big clown like feet. Soon we got our air tanks on and jumped off Nick's pontoon boat and into the water. Codi and Brian sat on the boat, playing dominoes until we would return.

Now I know that Nick was NOT exaggerating on how beautiful it was under the water. It really did seem to glow. We swam around down there for as long as our oxygen tanks would allow us. I got lost once. It wasn't really as scary as I thought it would be, I mean, I thought, being under water with all those fish, and the sharp coral. I thought how scary it would be to run into a shark and I cringed every time I thought of it. Once I found Nick again we set off for this big chunk of coral that lay at the bottom, I didn't really want to go down there, considering our oxygen tanks were getting low and there's was no telling what lived in that coral; I didn't want to disturbed a peaceful home of fish…or sharks.
Turns out it was all just plants and algae that lived there, maybe a few clown fish but that was all. We decided to return to the boat when we found that our air was running short, so we turned around and went back up, but as we got closer to the top, which was still a long ways away, I started to run out of breathe, soon I turned around to tell this to Nick but he wasn't there. I was a afraid to move around to much and use up my air but I tried to look around for him, I couldn't find him anymore and when I was to the point that I basically had to just hold my breathe I started to return to the top. A little ahead of me I saw something that looked almost black in color, but not quiet Floating in the water. My mind immediately thought sharks (I have a small fear), s I raced as fast as I could to the top, hoping it wouldn't see me, I was really week once I reached the surface and threw my air mask off and gasped for air. Our boat wasn't very far away so I yelled out to them. Codi heard me and they drove the boat over towards me and I climbed on. Codi looked very confused when I returned without Nick.
"Where is Nick?" She asked, looking over the side of the boat out into the water.
"I don't know."
"What do you mean you don't know?!" She started to panic.
"I don't know…he was right behind me one minute, we were coming back up and I turned around and he was gone. I tried to look for him but I was running out of air, I had to get back up… I think I saw shark. Or something big like that anyway."
"A shark…a real shark? Great, just great what if that thing eats him!" Codi exclaimed as she pointed a finger out in direction of the water. I lay down on the floor of the boat as I tried to catch my breath. I unzipped my wet suit a little so I could breath easier. Brian sat next to me, wondering what we were to do now. Probably go look for him but we only had that one air tank which was now empty, I couldn't hold my breath very good, and Codi and Bri weren't very good swimmers. We sat there for a few minutes, looking out over the water when suddenly something came bursting out of the water and gasping for air. It was Nick! 'He hadn't been eaten!' His back was turned to us and he started looking around for us, obviously a little disoriented. We yelled out to him and he turned around to see us and started swimming towards us. We pulled him aboard and he plopped down in the same spot I had been sitting to catch my breath before. I finally had peeled my suit off and threw on a shirt and shorts; I combed my hair out as best I could before putting it back up in a tight ponytail.
As soon as Nick had returned to the boat we started asking questions. "Hold up, hold up." Nick shouted out and every one stopped with their questions. Nick caught his breath a minute before beginning to answer our questions one by one.
Turns out he had got stuck on the coral we had seen and couldn't get out of it. He had lost consciousness for a minute and was totally confused when he woke up with no air. He had struggled to get free of the coral and burst up to the top where he had no idea where he was. Now we sat on the beach just out side his house. The boat tied back up to the dock and everyone changed into dry clothes. We sat in lawn chairs looking up at the stars, I told Brian how beautiful it was under there, and I wasn't sure or not whether I would be doing that again. Nick really scared us all, but we had a good laugh about it afterward.
