*Critical Analysis!*

Many people feel that The Color Purple contained strong language and offensive material that caused alot of controversy about Alice Walker's opinion about the south in those times. However, i feel that the book is an excellent reality check and that we can't continue living in a soceity that hears only what it wants to. Sometimes, we need to be more sensetive when it comes to such a touchy subject, but at the same token, we can't undermine the facts. Slavery did happen, and there was once a time in which women didn't have full rights as American citizens. Being and African American woman at that time was extremely difficult because they were considered to be the lowest rank in the social chain. Not only was Celie a woman, but she was black as well. I feel that Alice Walker was merely highlighting one of the many aspects of slavery in the south, not directly intending on offending anyone when she wrote The Color Purple. Therefore, we should read The Color Purple, learn something from it and apply it to our everyday lives because The Color Purple has something to offer every person, of every color, race and creed.
