The Color Purple
The Color purple is about a young girl named Celie who was seperated from her family at the age of fourteen. Her step father married her off to a man after raping her and taking their two children away. After being married off, Celie had to learn how to cook, clean, work and watch after her "new husbands" children. For awhile, her sister and best friend, Nettie was living with her at her new home but after refusing to engage in sexual intercourse with Celie's "husband", she was kicked out and seperated from Celie for many more years to come. Throughout the time period in which Celie spends at the farm, she teaches herself how to read and write so that she can communicate with her sister through mail. Her dream is to maybe one day, buy her own home where she and her sister Nettie could reunite, along with Celie's long lost two children that Nettie has taken care of, to live happily ever after. After meeting many encouraging friends throughout the text, Celie finally gets the courage to leave the house and luckily enough, inherits a house left to her by her birth mother.
