20 Facts About The War!!

1.) The Boston Tea Party was when a nunber of American citizens got onto a ship, some disquised as Indians, to dump tea into the ocean. It was to protest the newly implemented british taxes.

2.) The British lost about $3 million in today's American money as a result of the tea party.

3.) 342 crates of tea were dumped into the ocean successfully.

4.) In 1765, Britian imposed "The Stamp Act" which helped paid for British troops on the American frontier.

5.) Four workers were shot by British troops stationed in Boston. Patriots labeled the killings "The Boston Massacre."

6.) When Britain found out about the tea party, they closed down the Boston Harbor on April 1, 1774

7.) On July 4th, 1776, Thomas Jefferson, along with a few others such as Benjamin Franklin and John Adams came together to write the Declaration of Independence. The Declaration was approved by Congress

8.) Jefferson wrote the Declaration as a creed for future generations as well as present ones.

9.) The Declaration of Independence declared freedom from Britain and specifically stated the rights of the newly formed country, The United States of America.

10.) King George the third was not happy about the declaration and sent the british troops who were residing in Boston to New York to fight against George Washington and the Continental Army.

11.) Although Washington and the Continental army's defense was weak in New York, Washington's plan was to keep the war going as long as possible. For he knew the fate of America relied on the outcome of this battle.

12.) On October 17th, 1777, the British surrendered to the Americans in Saratoga, New York.

13.) In 1778, France signs a treaty of alliance with the United States and the American Revolution becomes a world war.

14.)On December 15th, 1791 The Bill of Rights was added to the Federal Constitution by Congress.

15.) The 10 amendments to the constitution ensure citizens of the United States freedom of speech, freedom of the press, freedom of religion and freedom of assembly.

16.)They also protect Americans from "unreasonable searches and seizures," guarantee criminals the right to "a speedy" trial, and from "cruel and unusual punishments."

17.)Since then, we have added and revised many more of the amendmants attatched to the Constitution.

18.) A Revolution is the overthrow of one government and its replacement with another.

19.)The American Revolution started a mini world war involving France, Great Britain and the colonies.
