TTP - Thrombotic Thrombocytopenia Purpura
Wishing Happy Platelets to all !!
TTP Survivors
TTP is a rare, blood disorder involving rapid consumption of platelets due to a breakdown in the chemical processes that initiate and control the clotting process.  The secondary effects are the rapid mechanical destruction of red blood cells and tissue damage in the body's organs resulting from ischemia (tissue starvation.) As the uncontrolled clotting process progresses, platetes and red blood cells are depleted faster than they can be replaced by the bone marrow, and many tissues and vital organs incur varying degrees of cellular damage. With prompt diagnosis and treatment, most patients survive their initial episode, although a small percentage of patients do die.  In fatal cases the cause is most often due to an extememly progressed disease state or the presence of a co-morbid condition that has already compromised the patient's ability to tolerate the stress of the disease.  the great majority of patients who demonstrate an initial reponse to treatment will eventually recover, even if they later require additional treatments to achieve remission. There is no predicatabiliy or pattern.  Each patient seems to express TTP as a unique disorder in terms of onset, response to treatment, recovery and relapse.    There is no cure.  Patients who recover are classified as being in remission.
