These are the scales you're going to want to use if you want to play lead guitar.  I suggest that if you want to play lead guitar, get lessons (at Watermelon Music with Richard Urbino!)

Pentatonic scales are any scales that have five notes (penta- means five).  The two most common are the major pentatonic and minor pentatonic, both used in blues songs.

Major Pentatonic

C D E G A C

Minor Pentatonic:

C Eb F G Bb C

Notice that the major pentatonic scale is just the major scale with fourth and seventh removed.  Similarly, the minor pentatonic scale is the minor scale with the second and sixth removed.  That's all I have to say about pentatonic scales.  Get lessons!
