Trinity River: Below Pigeon Point (July 4th, 04)

The drive from Tuolumne to Trinity was about 7 hours. I got into Junction city (very close to the group campsite) around 3:30am in the morning. Tired and I decided to sleep first and then to locate the group in the morning. I met up with some folks around 8am but one group has already gone to run a class III creek. So, I was left with only one option which was to run a class II stretch with 22 other paddlers and then to do the pigeon point, class 3 big water, in the afternoon. It turned out that pigeon point was a great run and I was happy. The class II run was also fun with big surf waves at high level. In the evening, we had potluck dinner, socialized with the group, and telling stories. This is an annual GCP club trip (most folks from Northern California area).

Paddlers: Laura, Cathy, John, Wayne, and Jeff on Pigeon Point run.

Water Level: 1786 cfs (High for this run).

River Description (from www.creekin.net)

Somebody spotted a bald eagle on the tree.

This is the Z-drop on the Pigeon point run.
