Tuolumne River: Lumsden Campground to Don Pedro Reservoir (18 miles, 7 hrs) (July 3th, 04)A few of us, San Diego and UCLA folks, gathered together and decided to paddle the main Tuolumne river on 4th of July holiday. It was a long and exciting run, 18 miles, and we did it in about 7 hours with minimal play time. The hardest rapids on this run were the 'Sunderland's Chute' and 'Clavey Falls.' On the Clavey, We ran the left side which was a semi-sneak route while a few rafters took the more challenging lines on river right as shown in pictures below. We also stopped at an old powerhouse (mining) for lunch. The powerhouse was destroyed by a flood back in 1937 and it was interesting to see some mechanical parts and pieces of it still scattering around. I departed with the group after the run (8pm) and headed to Trinity river to join GCP group (from Sacramento) for Sunday. Paddlers: Gilbert, Diane, Jamie, Jeramy, Amanda, Bryant, Alex, Patrick, and Rob. Water Level: 1250 cfs (Medium low and not pushy). Tuolumne River Description (from www.creekin.net)
