Birkenhead River (June 28, 03)
Second day of the trip. Shell was up early and was reading her book in the car. We headed north to Pemberton to paddle the Birkenhead. When we arrived, Phil, John, and Guy were already there and Linda and Pipo couldn't make it. The only person who had run this river was Guy. A quick introduction of each other and we headed out to the take out. It was funny that we started to notice something strange in Guy's behavior. His cheeks were red, he looked a little dazed, he worn his helmet backward and forgot about his paddle when he walked to the put-in. So, we thought he was drunk!
The water was on the high side so the run was really short, 45 minutes (according to Phil). One of the shortest runs I have done.
We ended the day around 3:30pm? Did I say that we were being attacked by massive mosquitoes at the take-out? I was stung all over on my legs and arms! The girls had to leave and head back to Bellingham for a friend's party. We departed and I headed to Squamish for the annual river festival. Good food and music.
