Confluence of Callaghan & Cheakamus rivers or short as Cal-Cheak (August 19, 03)

I paddled with the Squamish club Tuesday night and carpooled up with Rob, Laani, and Dagne.

Boaters: Rob, Laani, Mike, Dave, Paul, Cam, Andrew, and Unknown.

Water Level: Low, about 30 meter cube per second (about 810 cfs) according to Paul?

The weir: About 4-5ft high and almost river wide. You can scout it on river right just upstream before the drop. The usual line is center right or extreme right.

T-rock: A 'double-house' rock with a log pointing downstream that forms the shape of a male reproductive organ. There is a nice surf wave just below this drop. The usual line is river left then right. Beware of woods around this area.

Unknown Drop: At low level the line is river right.

1st V-wave: Another great spot for surfing. This wave is more intense than the 2nd V-wave.

2nd V-wave

Mandatory take-out: Soon after the 2nd v-wave and a short calm stretch, get ready to take-out on river left. This is a mandatory take-out because there is a canyon just below it. The eddies here are small so be aware when you have a big group of people or when the water is pushy. Have somebody ready at the take out to grab boats in case boaters past the point of no return. The river bends towards left so you can't really see the shore on river left as it bends. So, stay left at all time.
