Chehalis River: Statlu to bridge take-out

This run was from Statlu creek to the bridge take-out and it was about 3.5 - 4 hours (5-6 miles) long. Driving time from Vancouver was about 2 hrs and paddlers were Claudia, Peter, Keith, Gerry, Pipo, Linda, Rob, James, and David,...about 20+ paddlers total.

Directions: There are 2 ways to get to Chehalis river from Vancouver. Both about 2 hours drive. I took the Lougheed highway (number 7) east all the way. Stay on #7 (to Maple ridge and Mission). After you pass the town of Mission, you'll be on country road. So you'll pass small towns and then 2 railroad tracks. When you come to the town call Harrison Mills, pay attention because the signs aren't clearly mark. #7 will go straight at Sasquatch Inn. You WANT to turn left into Morris Valley road at Sasquatch inn junction. It's very easy to see the inn as it's the only one standing in the middle of the road. Follow Morris Valley road until it goes over the Chehalis River. You will see a lake on your right side as you drive along this road. The take-out is just over and left of the bridge. Note: road #7 is not a highway where you can drive fast. It's a city road, all the way, with max speed of 60 mph.

I'll take number 1 highway from Vancouver instead. Connect to #11 north and then connect to #7 to Chehalis. It takes about the same time.

The put-in: soon after you turn into Morris Valley road at Sasquatch Inn coming from road #7, you'll come to a 4-way stop sign. Turn left at the stop sign and drive all the way in (if you come from the take out, you'll need to turn right at the stop sign instead). There is a sign saying Chehalis Fish hatchery. The ride is very bumpy and long (may be 25minutes). You'll also see a lot of lumbers being cut down on the left hand side. Keep driving and eventually you'll go over a bridge and into a big (circular) parking lot. The river and put-in is just on the left hand side. This is a very remote area!
