Sportsman Central
The great outdoors, that's where I want to be.  In fact I have two sons who love the great outdoors as well.  Together we like to hunt, fish and beach as often as time and money will allow.

We recently bought a '98 Skeeter boat, the ZX185C model with a 150 hp Yamaha VMax.  Special thanks to "Uncle Ken" for his expert advise about boats and for his expert technical advise on Bass fishing in south Texas.

We wanted to set up a site to relate our outdoors experiences and to use as a information outlet on our outdoor adventures.  So here we are, we'll post our field notes, pictures and blogs on our hunting and fishing exploits.

Thanks for stopping by; we hope you enjoy our site!

Made another trip to Canyon Lake on Sunday (28Jan07).   We got to the lake right at noon and noticed that there was a little wind.  This was my first experience launching the boat without another adult along to help manage the truck and trailer while I handle the boat.  With the added wind this was a little nerve racking but we successfully loaded and unloaded with minimal damage.  Fishing was tough on this date and we did not get any solid bites.  I had some trouble with one of my reels that I had rigged up with a DD22 Red Ear.  The DD22 is a fairly large crank bait and I needed to have my spool break set a little tighter and then loosen from there until I got the distance I needed.  On my first cast I really wadded up my reel and spent a good amount of time wrestling with the wind while trying to fix the rats nest.  I finally got it fixed but no bites on the Red Ear.  Later I tried a green pumkin Baby Brush Hog and then a regular sized Brush Hog of similar color - neither produced a strike.  I also tried a green tube with orange flake in the closing 45 minutes of our trip.  After 5 hours of fishing in the wind, the trolling motor batteries were beginning to play out so we called it a day.   Not a lot of fish action on this trip but the three of us had a great time.  We are keeping a separate paper journal of our travels that have a number of diagrams and stories, may try to get some of these posted as well.

Man, that sounds like alot of fun. I haven't had much luck with the Red Ears either. Usually on choppy water I like to use the MD80 Yellow belly Tricom gig. You might try this and see how it works for you.
