Pg 13
Pg 13, Panel 1
SALLY and MANDY are entering their apartment.
SALLY – “I don’t know what to think about this, Mandy.”
MANDY – “Look, we got to have jobs, right? Might as well use our looks while we’re young. And at least we’re not stripping or anything. This could actually lead to something.”
SALLY – “I guess that’s right. And without that job, we couldn’t afford this place.”
Pg 13, Panel 2
Panoramic view of the apartment where we will spend a lot of time in upcoming months. Really needs to be a nice place, but not so nice that it’s out of their price range. Two bedrooms off a main living room, with attached kitchen/dining room.
MANDY – “Yeah, sweet, huh? So, is it the perfect superhero lair?”
SALLY – “Stop it.”
Pg 13, Panel 3
MANDY – “I don’t get you. That’s why we’re here, right? So you can be a hero? Some superhero sense sent you this way, right?”
SALLY – “It’s a bit more complicated than that and you know it. We had to leave LA.”
MANDY – “Sure, but why not go live in New York like all those heroes in the movies? Why Atlanta?”
Pg 13, Panel 4
Sally slumps down in a chair.
SALLY – “I don’t know. Something told me this was the place. You knew some people here..”
MANDY – “None I really want to remember.”
SALLY – “…and it felt right. Do you know how hard it is for me to find something that feels right? I’m 25 years old, and I haven’t felt right since I left high school. How sad is that?”
Pg 13, Panel 5
MANDY – “Sally, let me fill you in on a sad truth. No one has felt right since high school. In school they told us that anything was possible. That we can get the moon if we reach for the stars. That’s just not true anymore.”
SALLY – “I can’t believe that. If I do, then there’s no reason to go on. I have to believe that the world is still open to possibility.”
MANDY – “Why? What is it that makes you believe that? I’ve accepted that I’m going to be a nobody, and I’m good with that.”
Pg 13, Panel 6
SALLY – “I just can’t. I mean, I have to have these powers for a reason, right? I can’t be the super strong girl for nothing? I don’t even know how this happened, but there has to be a reason, right?”
MANDY – “The number of question marks there indicates that there probably isn’t. Listen, I know that I’m probably going to grow up, have a decent job, enjoy some good times, get married, settle down and have some kids. And I’m okay with that. I want to enjoy my life, not keep pushing myself to achieve some unrealistic version of the American Dream that doesn’t exist anymore.”
Pg 13, Panel 7
SALLY – “Then why are you here with me?”
MANDY – “I ask myself that almost every minute since we got here.”
(Both laugh)
Pg 14
Pg 14, Panel 1
SALLY – “I guess it’s time for me to go.”
MANDY – “No more philosophical discussions tonight?”
SALLY – “If I’m going to do this, I better do it.”
MANDY – “Sure you don’t want to just sit here, have some ice cream and watch TV with me?”
Pg 14, Panel 2
SALLY – “Of course that’s what I want to do, but what I want and what I need to do are two different things.”
MANDY – “There you go again. Why? Why can’t you do what you want?”
SALLY – “What if everyone did that? We would have chaos. No laws and no order.”
Pg 14, Panel 3
MANDY – “Here we go again. You better leave before we solve all the world’s problems.”
SALLY – “I’m off.” (Gets up to leave)
Pg 14, Panel 4
MANDY (Yelling to her off panel) – “You’re not really going to wear that costume are you?”
SALLY (yelling back from off panel) – “Have to. You’re not a hero without it, right?”
MANDY (muttering under her breath) – “I’d try to be, that’s for sure.”
SALLY (yelling back) – “I heard that.”
Pg 14, Panel 5
MANDY – “Where are you going? Do you even know that?”
SALLY – “I figured I’d start on Peachtree Street and just walk around. Man, I wish I had flying powers.”
MANDY – “You do realize there’s like fifteen Peachtree Streets, right? These people love their peaches.”
Pg 14, Panel 6
SALLY (poking her head out from the bedroom) – “Really? I always preferred oranges, myself.”
MANDY – “To each their own. I’m a banana girl, myself.”
SALLY – “You have a dirty mind.”
MANDY – “What? It’s my favorite fruit!”
SALLY – “You know what.”
Pg 15
Pg 15, Panel 1
Nearly full page splash of Sally in her costume. It’s bright, to say the least. Lots of yellow and orange and red. Form fitting at the bottom, with a tied off jacket looking thing at the top, and a small bandit mask. She’s definitely good looking, but you can see the muscles as well.
SALLY – “How do I look?”
MANDY – “Like a hero. You off?”
Pg 15, Panel 2
Sally is walking out.
SALLY – “Yea. Here I come to save the day!”
MANDY – “Catch you later, Mighty Mouse.”
Pg 16
Pg 16, Panel 1
Lance and Edge are leaving Mom’s house.
EDGE – “So you and your Mom cool, man? That got pretty rough.”
LANCE – “Nah, that was mild. She waited until dinner was started to bring up Dad.”
EDGE – “That’s true. You ever gonna tell me what happened to him?”
Pg 16, Panel 2
LANCE – “Yeah, just not today.”
Pg 16, Panel 3
EDGE – “Fair enough. You going out to patrol?”
LANCE – “I guess. I’ll drop you back home first, though.”
Pg 16, Panel 4
Lance has picked them up off the ground with his powers.
EDGE – “No, man. Let me come out with you. I’ll keep you company tonight.”
LANCE – “Really, you want to do that?”
EDGE – “Sure, it’s not like I have a job to go to tomorrow, like some people.”
Pg 16, Panel 5
They are flying
LANCE – “I’m not getting on to you about the job, am I?”
EDGE – “Yeah, you are. I’ll get a job when I get a job. I’m waiting for the right thing.”
LANCE – “No offense, man, but you’ve been waiting for a while.”
Pg 16, Panel 6
EDGE – “You’re really going to criticize me for trying to do what I love instead of just paying the bills? What the hell do you complain about every day?”
LANCE – “That’s different, man.”
EDGE – “Why, because I don’t have super powers? I want to work in sports, so that’s what I’m going to do. I may not be an athlete, I never have been, but I want to work with a sports team. You want to be a hero, and that’s what I want to do.”
Pg 16, Panel 7
LANCE – “I know, man, but until you get that job, why not get some experience and make some money?”
EDGE – “Is this about the rent? Because I thought we were cool with that?”
LANCE – “It’s not about the rent, man. I’m just trying to look out for you.”
Pg 16, Panel 8
EDGE – “You look out for crooks, and let me worry about myself. I’ll get where I want to be, and so will you. Now find someplace to put us down before I get all misty eyed.”
Pg 16, Panel 9
Lance drops them on the street.
LANCE – “I guess we’ll try Peachtree and head out from there.”
EDGE – “Which one?”
LANCE – “Very funny. Maybe you should be a comedian instead of a sports guy.”
EDGE – “You’re pushing it, man.”
Pg 17, Panel 1
Lance and Edge walking down the street.
LANCE – “I don’t even know how to look for crooks. Do you think I could pick up a class in that at some college?”
EDGE – “I don’t think that’s part of anyone’s continuing education curriculum, man.”
LANCE – “You’re probably right. Police academy?”
EDGE – “I thought you hated cops.”
Pg 17, Panel 2
LANCE – “No, remember, that’s you? You’re the angry black guy, I’m the rational, down to Earth southern boy.”
EDGE – “You’re right, I forgot to check in to Stereotype Theatre tonight. My humble apologies.”
Pg 17, Panel 3
From off panel, a voice!
VICTIM – “Get off of me!”
Lance and Edge look in the direction of the voice.
Pg 17, Panel 4
Lance and Edge round a corner to see a woman being attacked by a man looking to rape her. Both are reasonably well dressed.
VICTIM – “Go away, Shane.”
RAPIST – “Come on, Amara. We had dinner and drinks. It’s our third date. It’s time.”
Pg 17, Panel 5
EDGE – “Date rape? That’s what we get. No wonder you’ve only caught three guys. No offense.”
LANCE – “None taken. I guess I better stop this.”
EDGE – “I can do this one if you want.”
LANCE – “No, it’s good practice.”
Pg 17, Panel 6
The rapist turns to face Lance and Edge.
RAPIST – “Who the hell are you guys?”
LANCE – “I’m the guy who’s here to stop you.”
EDGE – “And I’m the guy who hitched a ride with that guy and will therefore get to watch him stop you.”
Pg 17, Panel 7
VICTIM – “Please, leave us alone. It’s fine.”
LANCE – “It didn’t sound like it.”
RAPIST – “Listen to her, man. She doesn’t need any help but mine.”
LANCE – “Sorry, I’m not buying it.”
Pg 17, Panel 8
Lance lifts the rapist up in the air with his powers.
RAPIST – “What are you doing, man? What kind of freak are you?”
Pg 17, Panel 9
LANCE – “Do you know what telekinesis is? It’s the power to move things with your mind. I’m sure a smart guy like you, who couldn’t wait to get the girl back home to make your feeble attempt to score, knows stuff like that. That’s what I’m doing to you now. Using my mind to hold you up in the air, until I decide what to do to you.”
VICTIM – “Please, it’s alright. Just leave us alone!”
Pg 18
Pg 18, Panel 1
Edge is trying to comfort the victim and moves to put his arm around her.
EDGE – “Lady, we’re helping you. This guy’s a creep.”
VICTIM – “Don’t touch me! I don’t know you!”
Pg 18, Panel 2
LANCE – “He’s right, ma’am. We’re just trying to help. (turns to rapist) You want our help, don’t you big man?”
RAPIST – “No, man. I don’t need any help. Please! Just let me down.”
Pg 18, Panel 3
Lance is spinning the guy in a circle up in the air.
LANCE – “No, I don’t think so.”
Pg 18, Panel 4
Lance is bouncing him up and down like a yo-yo.
LANCE – “You see, women should be loved and cherished, not treated like possessions.”
Pg 18, Panel 5
Lance is shuffling him side to side.
LANCE – “Guys like you lower the standards for the rest of us. That’s why people think all guys are stupid. Because of scum like you.”
Pg 18, Panel 6
RAPIST – “You’re right, man. I love women. Please, please let me down!”
VICTIM – “Let him go!”
Pg 18, Panel 7
Off panel, yet another voice!
SALLY – “Put him down.”
