It is possible to smother someone with goodwill and gifts. The recipient loses his survival instincts and starts relying on more gifts. A worse scenario: if the gifts are aimed to please and comfort, and are not used for constructive purposes, the whole thing may backfire on the giver. Perhaps even gift givers ought to be considerate and insightful.
