A teacher's life has many ups and downs. Some days, you see the twinkle of understading in your students' eyes, and you realise that your efforts have taken root. Some days, despite having given all that you could, the student nonchalantly tosses it all back and goes away. On those days, the teachers feel no differently than janitors. What's the use of toiling endlessly, only to have people step all over your floor just one minute later?
"Sowing seeds" or "throwing the pearls before swine"...quite indistinguishable, sometimes!
