Old things are not necessarily "out-dated", nor new things actually "new". Many new things are variations or developments on earlier concepts and prototypes.  It doens't mean that the old things are useless, but rather, less preferred.

In our search for new and exciting things, we sometimes throw the "baby" out with the "bathwater". The day inevitably comes when seek the "bathwater" because of the wisdom and resource it used to hold for us.

...Alas, it has evaporated, and is no more.
