Duhhh...
Sometimes it takes a winding path to reach enlightenment.
My recent fascination with North german baroque organ literature led me into the wondrous sights and sounds of the raw Schnitger, Muller and of course, Silbermann organs in Europe. The tradition of the elusive Stylus Phantasticus, how it got transformed from its Italian origins in the hands of the German masters who brought it to fruition, is a constant source of amazement for me. I never realised how much I didn't know until I started to explore the works "around" the master, Dieterich Buxtehude; these lesser-known composers, being Scheidemann, Tunder, Lubeck, Bruhns, Muffat, Schildt. At the same time, the very pieces that I played many years ago have now been "illuminated" in my understanding. "Cobwebs, be ye gone!"
Thought: you don't know what you don't know, till you try to know it all! Also, the more you know, the more you know you don't know it all! Foolish is the man who shouts out his wisdom in the streets, that others may perceive him wise!
